What Should I Check Before I Call AirMakers About My Heat Pump Repair?

First and foremost, you don’t have to check or do anything to give AirMakers a call. We’re happy to come out to check everything for you. However, should you want to do a quick look yourself, you can try these few items:
Start with the Thermostat:
Your thermostat is programed to have a bit of delay between heating and cooling cycles and vice versa. Typically, this delay mode will last about five minutes or so. This ensures that your heat pump has time to cycle down the heating or cooling and restart the new cycle. So, give it a little time to adjust to see if it’s working. If nothing is happening or it still isn’t functioning properly, give AirMakers a call.
Replace Air Filters:
While this may seem somewhat trivial, air filters play a big role in your HVAC system. Go ahead and just check them to make sure that they are free from debris and that may be on your filters like dust, etc. If you haven’t changed them in a while, change them and see if that makes a difference. Failing to change your air filters regularly, can cause issues with proper air flow and cause more refrigerant pressure, excessive wear, etc. Plus, it causes your unit to use more energy in general.
Check Your Breaker Box:
So, if you’re trying to heat your home, you may want to check your breaker just to make sure that it didn’t trip. While typically, this isn’t an issue. However, if it does get cold outside, heat pumps use heat elements to produce warm airflow in “emergency heat” mode. This can take a lot of energy when it gets colder outside.
Turn on Your Emergency Heat Function:
If you haven’t done so already, try your emergency heat function and see if it’s working properly. The thermostat should read something like “emergency heat” or “auxiliary heat”. Check to see if it’s working.
